Position: Shop Fabricator

General Function
The position of Shop Fabricator within the Large Screen Displays organization requires the understanding and execution of fundamental light fabrication techniques. Shop Fabricators report to the Operations Manager and are regularly required to read shop drawings, accurately locate and drill holes, cut wooden and plastic panels, cut lengths of extrusion, test-assemble structural designs and pack the disassembled designs for shipment.
Character of the Position
Large Screen Displays is a $3-4 M rental / stager and manufacturer of custom audio visual structures and rear screen enclosures. We provide products and services to to the industrial/commercial market place worldwide. The Assembly / Manufacturing Technician is a key player in the design and fabrication of our product offerings. This individual must be familiar with projection technology and the basic principles of folding light paths with the use of mirrors
This individual shall work in conjunction with other staff at both LSD's Fabrication Division and Rental Division to develop and sell ideas/concepts on presentation media / devices. The individual must always be looking for new and exciting products that will enhance our current line. Maintaining the competitive edge in technology and design is the sure way to stay one-step ahead of competition.
This position is based in our Santa Ana facility. The work hours for this position are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma
Experience Requirements:
Two years light fabrication experience. Carpentry or structural assembly preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills/Aptitudes & Abilities:
· Good verbal and written skills
· Mathematical aptitude (basic math only: algebra & geometry a plus)
· Excellent Organizational skills (shop cleanliness, organization of work)
· Mechanical and Artistic aptitude (measurement skills and attention to aesthetic detail is important)

Work Scope:
> Liaison: Large Screen Displays Production, Sales & Engineering, Vendors, Project Managers & End Users
> Freedom To Act: Reports to Chief Operating Officer, Large Screen Displays
> Problem Complexity: Materials Coordination, Design & Fabrication, Scheduling and Install Mgt.

Accountabilities:
· Basic understanding of mechanical and structural components and how they interrelate.
· Shop upkeep (organizing and sweeping).
· Communicate with Engineering on design issues.
· Communicate with Operations on inventory and fabrication issues.
· Read, interpret and understand CAD shop fabrication drawings.
· Measure various materials (aluminum extrusion, steel angle, wooden panels, etc.), accurately locate and drill holes using drill presses and hand held drill motors (+/- 1/64" tolerance).
· Use of radial chop saw to cut aluminum and steel extrusion to lengths (+/- 1/64" tolerance).
· Fabrication and use of wooden and metal jigs for cutting holes and positioning components.
· Use of drill presses and hand held drill motors with taps to thread holes.
· Use of table saw to cut wooden and plastic panels.
· Use of a bubble level and a framing square to check assembled designs.
· Application of labels to subassemblies per CAD drawing instructions.
· Use of a hot iron to edgeband wooden panels.
